Don’t leave that spare ball of yarn lying unloved in your stash when you can turn it into the favourite item of your winter wardrobe. Kirstie McLeod has turned a single ball of inexpensive 4ply into this stunning lace snood, designed for Simply Knitting issue 87.

“It’s easy to wear and very practical for all ages,” says Kirstie. “Whip up one of these, and then if you need a gift in a hurry for a girl or woman it’ll be ready to wrap up.”

The lace pattern looks intricate, but it’s quite easy. Even if you're new to lace don't be afraid to give it a go! Thread a piece of spare yarn through your work after you complete a pattern repeat to create a 'lifeline'. That way if you do make a mistake you can easily rip back to this point without dropping any stitches.

You will need:

Stylecraft, Life 4ply (75% acrylic, 25% wool, 450m/100g), 1 ball of Mint (2342)

A pair of 4½mm knitting needles
