Bonus crochet pattern: Crochet Christmas collar

You will need

  • Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (100% acrylic, 100g/156m per ball), 1 ball each in: Pink (101), Mustard (198) and Dusty Green (173). Note – only small quantities of each colour is needed, less than 15m.
  • 4.0mm (UK 8, US G/6) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle

Tension

Tension is not essential for this project.

bobble bobble st, essentially working 4 treble together; *yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull yarn through the first two loops on the hook (2 loops on hook), repeat from * another 3 times (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through the five loops on the hook, pull tightly to create the bobble. The bobble for this pattern will be made on the “wrong side” of your work. You will push the bobble away from yourself as you work these stitches, in order to create the bobble on the “right side” of the work.

Instructions

This project is worked in rows, ch1 at the start of each row does not count as a st.

It uses colour changes to achieve the pictured look. To change colour do so on the last yarn over hook of the previous st.

Row 1 using Yarn A, ch13, 1dc in the second ch from the hook, 1dc in each of next 11ch, turn. [12sts]

Row 2 ch1, (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) 6 times, turn. [18sts]

Row 3 ch1, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, 1tr in each of next 6 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, 1dc in each of last 3 sts, change to colour B, turn.

Row 4 ch1, (2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 2 sts) 6 times, turn. [24sts]

Row 5 ch1, (2htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 3 sts) 6 times, change to Yarn A, turn. [30sts]

Row 6 ch1, (2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 4 sts) 6 times, turn. [36sts]

Row 7 in this row, dc sts are in Yarn A and bobble sts are in Yarn C, starting with Yarn A, ch1, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, change to Yarn C, bobble, [change to Yarn A, 1dc in each of next 5 sts, change to Yarn C, bobble] 5 times, change to Yarn A, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, turn. [36sts]

Row 8 ch1, (miss 2 sts, 5tr in next st, miss 2 sts, ss in next st) 6 times. [36sts]

Turn to work along the edge of the collar, work 1dc in each row end, ch21, starting in the second ch from the hook, ss in each st back down the ch, 1dc in each of next 12 sts across the top centre of the collar, ch21, starting in the second ch from the hook, ss in st back down the ch, 1dc in each row end down the second side of the collar, break yarn and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Bonus crochet pattern: Reindeer hat

You will need

  • Yarn – Hobby Lobby Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek (100% acrylic worsted weight, 140g/212m per ball), 1 ball of Linen (Yarn A)
  • Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (100% acrylic, 100g/156m per ball), 1 ball in Linen (099). Note – less than 30m is required of each yarn.
  • 3.25 mm (UK 10, US D/3) crochet hook
  • 4.0 mm (UK 8, US G/6) crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle

Tension

Tension is not essential for this project but should match tension of bear bobble buddy, so the hat is similar in size to the head of the bear.

magic ring to make a magic ring, hold thread in your hand and wrap working yarn around forefinger twice to create ring, slip ring off your finger and insert hook to pick up first st, ch1, then work the necessary sts for round 1 and close the ring tightly by pulling the loose end.

Instructions

This project is worked in continuous rounds, do not join at the end of each round.  Use a stitch marker at the start of each round and move it up as you work.

The hat and antlers are made separately and sewn together.

Hat

Round 1 using 4.0mm hook and Yarn A, start with a magic ring, ch1, 6dc in ring, pull ring tight to close. [6sts]

Round 2 2dc in each st around. [12sts]

Round 3 (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) 6 times. [18sts]

Round 4 (2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 2 sts) 6 times. [24sts]

Round 5 (2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 3 sts) 6 times. [30sts]

Round 6 (2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 4 sts) 6 times. [36sts]

Round 7 (2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 2 sts) 4 times, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, ch8, miss 8 sts, 2dc in the next st, 1dc in each of next 4 sts, 2dc in next st, ch8, miss 8 sts. [26dc and 16ch]

Round 9 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 18 sts, 2dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 28 sts. [50sts]

Rounds 10-14 1dc in each st around.

Round 15 ss in each st around, break yarn, fasten off and weave in ends.

 

Antler (make 2)

Each antler is made first with two pieces that are joined together before finishing the rest of the antler.

First piece

Round 1 using 3.25mm hook and Yarn B, start with a magic ring, ch1, 6dc in ring, pull ring tight to close [6sts]

Round 2 (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) 3 times [9sts]

Rounds 3-5 1dc in each st around, break yarn, fasten off and and weave in ends.

Second piece

Round 1 using 3.25mm hook and Yarn B, start with a magic ring, ch1, 6dc in ring, pull ring tight to close. [6sts]

Round 2 (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) 3 times. [9sts]

Rounds 3-8 1dc in each st around.

After the last round, do NOT cut yarn, continue to Round 9 and join the 2 pieces.

The first st of the round is dc2tog. To complete this st, start in the next st of the second piece and in any stitch of the first piece to join them together.

Continue to work around the first piece and finish the round by working on the second piece.  Continue working in the round for the rest of the antler and stuff gently as you go.

Round 9 dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, dc2tog. [15sts]

Round 10 (1dc in next st, dc2tog) 5 times. [10sts]

Rounds 11-15 1dc in each st around, break yarn and fasten off, leaving a tail to sew to the hat.

Antlers should be sewn to the hat across Rounds 3-6. Place antlers slightly in front of centre, behind the openings on the hat for each ear. See photos for more help with placement.
