How could you possibly resist knitting one of these gorgeous little hats for a tot you know? Make one and you probably won’t be able to resist making all six. There’s a chick, cat, dinosaur, bear, bunny and piglet to choose from. Designer Rosee Woodland, who created the hats for Simply Knitting issue 76, says: “Although I think the rabbit is probably the cutest, the piglet is actually my favourite just because it makes me giggle.”

The hats are knitted in the round so there are no seams to press against a child’s head. Very young children often have sensitive skin, so it’s important to use a yarn that won’t irritate them. We chose Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK as it’s beautifully soft and machine washable. Each design comes in four sizes, from birth to two years, so why not knit a few as a sweet gift for a new baby?
