5. Halloween mug cosy

Eye of newt and wing of bat might be perfect for a witch’s potion, but they won’t make for a good cup of coffee! So, put away that cauldron, pop the kettle on and keep your favourite mug warm with this spooktacular mug cosy. You could even brew up a pumpkin spice latte to feel extra autumnal.
We’ve transformed the finished stitching into mug hugs by mounting them onto strips of felt for a super-easy finish that won’t fray.
This Halloween mug cosy is designed by Rhona Norrie and first appeared in The World of Cross Stitch issue 298 as part of a set.

How to make a mug cosy:
- Trim your stitching to three squares and fray one block.
Then back your stitching with medium-weight iron-on interfacing. - Cut your chosen felt colour to 25x8cm (9¾x3¼in), rounding off the corners for a smoother finish.
- Machine or hand sew the stitched piece centrally onto your felt.
- Attach a button to the front of your felt – position it on the centre of one of the short edges.
- Attach a loop of elastic to the back of your felt panel along the other short edge, lining it up with your button. Why not use a thin elastic hairband in a matching colour as your loop?
6. Black cat cross stitch Halloween pattern

The black cat is a classic symbol of Halloween, with superstitions of them being bad luck and owned by witches. We think that black cats are totally adorable, though, and deserve to be in the spotlight all year round!
