You will need:
• 15mm crochet hook (US 19/P ) (head to our best crochet hooks round up to find the best hook for you)
• 85g (11 metres) petrol blue t-shirt yarn, cut into 5cm (2″) wide strips
• 145g (23 metres) cream t-shirt yarn
• 200g (38 metres) aqua t-shirt yarn
• 220g (37 metres) grey t-shirt yarn
• 355g (44 metres) orange t-shirt yarn

Step 1

Starting with petrol blue yarn, ch5, sl st into 1st ch to join. Ch2 (counts as 1st tr), tr9 into ring (10 sts).
Step 2

Ch2, tr into base of ch, tr2 into each st in round (20 sts).
Step 3

Switch to cream. Ch2, tr into base of ch, tr1 into next sp. *[tr2 into next sp, tr1 into next sp], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (30 sts). Ch2, tr into base of ch, tr1 into each of next 2 sps, *[tr 2 into next sp, tr1 into each of next 2 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (40 sts).
Step 4

Switch to aqua. Ch2, tr into base of ch. Tr1 into each of next 3 sps, *[tr 2 into next sp, tr1 into each of next 3 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (50 sts). Ch2, tr into base of ch. Tr1 into each of next 4 sps, *[tr 2 into next sp, tr1 into each of next 4 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (60 sts).
Step 5

Switch to orange. Ch2, tr into base of ch. Tr1 into each of next 5 sps, *[tr 2 into next sp, tr1 into each of next 5 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (70 sts). Ch2, tr into base of ch. Tr1 into each of next 6 sps, *[tr 2 into next sp, tr1 into each of next 6 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (80 sts)
Step 6

Switch to grey for the border. Ch1, dc into base of ch, dc1 into each of next 7 sps, *[dc2 into next sp, dc1 into each of next 7 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join (90 sts). Ch1, dc into base of ch, dc1 into each of next 8 sps, *[dc2 into next sp, dc1 into each of next 8 sps], rep * 8 times, sl st to join, fasten off (100 sts).
Finally, weave in ends with a crochet hook and lay your homemade rug at the front door next to your Wellingtons.
