You will need

Vanilla Superlon thread #18
2mm crochet hook
6mm Swarovski cream crystal pearl
Strong sewing thread and needle
Tapestry needle
2.5mm brooch back
Scissors

Abbreviations

ch - chain

dc - double crochet

dtr - double treble crochet

sl st - slip stitch

st/sts - stitch/stitches

tr - treble crochet

Step-by-step crochet flower tutorial

Step 1

Using S-lon #18 cord, ch5 and slip stitch into the first stitch to form a ring. Ch2, work 5dc into the ring and then sl st to the top of ch2.

Work into the front bar only in this round. *ch2, tr, ch1, tr, ch2, sl st into bar on same stitch to create the first petal. Sl st into front bar of next dc, then repeat from * to work six petals.

Step 3

Ch2 and turn the flower over. dc into the remaining bar on each dc, sl st to the top of ch2. Ch3, dc into next stitch, *ch1, dc into next stitch. Repeat from *, then sl st into middle stitch of ch3. 12sts.

Step 4

Ch5, miss 1dc from previous round and dc into the next. *ch4, miss 1dc and dc into the next. Repeat from *, then sl st into the bottom of ch.

Step 5

Ch3 and turn the flower over. *Working into the next loop, tr, dtr, ch1, dtr, tr, then ch3 and sl st to the dc between the loops. Ch3 and repeat from * to make six larger petals. Sl st into the base of the initial ch3.

Step 6

Ch5 and turn the flower over again. Sl st to the sl st between the next two petals. Repeat to create a loop over the back of each of the larger petals. Repeat step 5 working on these larger loops to make a third layer of six petals.

Step 7

Trim the cord and sew in the ends. Shape the petals by tugging gently. Lay on a folded towel and gently press the two larger petal layers with a steam iron. Blast the flower with jets of steam and then reshape to create a 3D flower. Leave to cool.

Step 8

Sew the brooch back securely onto the back of the flower above the centre line so that it doesn’t fall forward when worn. Sew the pearl into the centre of the flower at the front. Stitch through the pearl several times for security before sewing in the ends.
