Also, the pattern notes state that the sleeve cuff is worked as a deep rib, but it is a short moss stitch cuff as outlined in the pattern instructions.

Town Square Shawl

Please be aware of the symbols in row 5 of the chart which look like K2tog, yo and K3tog. In hindisight this chart is a little confusing as the symbols in this row also mean something else – see the bottom of the key – and it might have been clearer if we had used different symbols in this case. There is a border around the 3 symbols together in the chart but you could be forgiven for missing that.

So the 3 symbols before and after the repeat, which look like K2tog, yo, K2tog, are actually ‘K2 into 3” which is worked as thus: K2tog without removing sts from left needle, yo, then work same 2 sts K2tog again, and remove sts from needle. 3 sts made from 2 sts.

The 3 symbols in the repeat, which look like K3tog, yo, K3tog, are actually “K3 into 3” which is worked as thus: K3tog without removing sts from left needle, yo, then work same 3 sts K3tog again, and remove sts from needle. 3 sts made from 3 sts.

Sloane Square Cushion

When working C30F in rib, it may look as though the remaining sts after the sts on the cable are to be worked 'as seen' – ie (P2, K2) 4 times, however the rib on this section is actually 'reset' and hidden behind the cable, so it should be worked as printed in the magazine.

The instruction to cast on steek stitches at the neck is missing. It should read like this:

The Row numbers also get confused later in the pattern and we suggest you work the pattern and ignore the row numbers, as this seems to be a typographical error.

Lattice Stitch Section: The pattern reads that you cont to inc 6 sts on every RS row, when in fact you inc 4. The stitch counts given are correct.

In chart B, the small triangles which appear on rows 31 to 48 have outer colourwork in Yarn A according to the chart. This should be Yarn B. In the same section, there are diamonds with an outer of Yarn F, a middle of Yarn B and a centre of Yarn A. The middle section should be knitted in Yarn C.

Loveday Cardigan

The notions given should be for 3mm and 3½mm needles, not 3mm and 3¼mm. The tension given for the Fair Isle colourwork is correct.

The written instructions for Chart A are incorrect. Round 7 should read as folls:

Sleeves: The stitches should be cast off at the end of the sleeves and not placed on a holder. On the chart, the moss stitch in the background inside the cable motif has been charted the wrong way round, so where there is a knit stitch it should be a purl and vice versa. The moss stitch around the outside of the cable is correct.

Size L only: Shape left front, line 3 of second paragraph. Should say 4th and not - for the number of rows between decreases.

The Knitter issue 18

Umoo

The Texere Thai Silk used in this pattern has a slubby construction, and as a result knits up to a somewhat variable tension. The tension stated in the pattern was 27 sts and 29 rows to 10cm over stocking stitch, and some readers have had difficulty matching the row tension as well as stitch tension.

To obtain a correctly sized garment, it is most important to match stitch tension. Most lengths in the pattern can be easily adjusted if there are differences in row tension. If your swatch measures the correct tension, please be sure to also check your knitting regularly, to ensure that you are getting an average of 27 sts to 10cm.

Body Row 2 should read: P2tog, yrn, P1, *K10, P1; rep from * to end.

Victoria Falls

All decreases in the charted lace pattern have been shown the wrong way round, so where it shows K2tog you need to work Sl 1, K1, psso and vice versa. The written instructions are correct.

Page 66 first paragraph, remove line saying "This will be on row 5 of the 6th, 9th and 12th repeats of the beaded lace stitch as folls."

Page 66, row 101, size 28-32 should say 431 sts and not 461 sts.

After the heel, the smallest size uses 30 sts for the lace pattern and 30 sts for the sole. The lace pattern must be worked with 3½ pattern repeats. Work as follows: Work stitches 7 to 12 from the chart, then from stitch 1 as normal. Rows 1-4 and 6-9 as written.

Row 5 Work the first stitch as K2tog and not Sl 1, K2tog, psso.

Row 10 Work sts 7 to 12 as written but then work first stitch as Sl 1, K2tog, psso.
