The sunflower cross stitch pattern is a quick design to stitch, with the finished design a stitch count of 48 stitches high x 48 stitches wide. Stitch it on to 14 count aida or 28-count evenweave – you'll need a piece that measures at least 9x9cm (3½x3½in). We've stitched ours using DMC stranded cotton but the key includes thread shades for DMC, Anchor and Madeira so you can stitch it with your favourite threads from your stash.

This free cross-stitch pattern was designed by Susan Bates and originally appeared in issue 232 of The World of Cross Stitching magazine.

This chart includes the words "On your birthday" but you can easily update the message to adapt the reason for sending – "Just to say hi" or "Get well soon" would fit nicely in the space.
