Whether you enjoy a traditional Christmas carol or a cheesy, festive pop tune, these adorable singing crochet snowman characters by Lucy Pollock are here to join in the fun! Our first crochet snowman pattern is actually a snow-lady: Mum Snowy, who is snuggled up warm in a beautiful blue poncho, and her little boy Chilly stays nice and cosy in a hat and scarf. To make a crochet snowman dad and daughter too, omit the poncho and change the colours of Chilly’s outfit. There’s plenty of fun to be had with this frosty crochet snowman pattern!

Book

Use a ruler and draw a 8x4cm rectangle on a piece of card (an empty cereal box will do). Cut this out and fold in half to create the crease of a book. Lay your card over the white felt and draw around the outside with a border of 2mm (this will make the sewing much easier). Cut out. Repeat with baby blue felt. On the white felt, sew horizontal lines of black thread, using the image below as a guide. Secure well. On the blue felt make a star shape on one half of the felt using the glitter thread. Secure well. Make your book by putting the two felt pieces together, wrong sides facing, with the card in between. Sew the two felt pieces together using a simple blanket stitch all the way round the edges, in the blue glitter thread. Secure well and trim any threads. If you wish, you can also sew a line down the middle (to make the crease of the book).

To assemble

Attach the noses to the heads using orange yarn, making sure to hide the yarn at the bottom of the head (you'll be sewing that part to the neck later, so it won't be seen). Using black yarn, starting from the bottom of the head, make two lines under the nose to create the mouth. Make the eyebrows with two black lines above the eyes, then secure back again to the bottom of the head and trim any leftover yarn. Sew the head onto the body using white yarn, making sure to use pins to help keep your head in place while you sew around the body and head. Secure well and trim the yarn. Sew the arms to each side of the body using white yarn. You may wish to sew the poncho to Snowy, but I have kept it loose so it can be removed. Again, either sew the hat and scarf onto Chilly or leave loose so it can be removed. Add rosy cheeks with blusher and a small brush.
