You will need

Please note - This pattern calls for Sport weight yarn, which isn't a term widely used in the UK (4ply is the common alternative, although technically sport weight is slightly thicker, but not as much as a DK yarn). We have suggested a suitable yarn, but if you would like to learn more check out our guide to choosing the best yarn for crochet

Tension

To make this amigurumi isn’t necessary to use the recommended yarn and crochet hook. Using a larger crochet hook, and a suitable yarn, the amigurumi will be larger preserving the same proportions.

Measurements

Working with a 3mm crochet hook and cotton yarn the finished amigurumi will be 5cm (approx 2in)

Abbreviations (UK terms)

You can find a full list of all abbreviations we use in our abbreviations and conversions guide. This crochet heart balloon pattern is written in UK terminology but you can easily convert it to US terms using the guide.

Notes

The crochet heart balloon pattern is worked using the amigurumi method. Work in a continuous spiral without closing off the round with a ss. It may help to use a stitch marker in the stitch of each round, moving it up as you work.

If you would like to create a simple heart without the bottom balloon frill, simply stop your work at Round 14 and fasten off. Then weave your tail through each remaining stitch and pull tight to close the hole, then weave in your end.
