West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab (100% wool, 100g/225m) or alternative Dk yarn, 1 ball of each:

  • Natural Cream (010)
  • Citrus Yellow (229)
  • Harbour Blue (746)
  • Crimson Red (556)
  • Pear Green (186)
  • Zesty Orange (476)
  • Thistle Purple (717)

A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

Tension

First 3 rounds of Granny Square pattern measures 7.5 x 7.5cm (3 x 3in)

Measurements

Granny square slippers measure 24cm (9½in) long

Abbreviations

Dc seam With RS of Squares facing, work standard dc sts through both sts (including ch) of each layer of two Squares to join

Notes

Each crochet slipper is made up of 6 Granny Squares joined together at the end with a dc seam. Refer to the construction diagram at the end of this post when making up your crochet slippers.

There are two Granny Square patterns, each using different colours. Each crochet slipper uses 3 Squares of each pattern.

Granny square 1 (make 3)

Using Citrus Yellow, make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), (2tr, ch2, 3tr, ch2) into loop, change to Zesty Orange, (3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch2) into loop, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. [4 3-tr groups]

Join Zesty Orange into final ch-2 sp.

Round 2 (RS) Ch3, (2tr, ch1) into same ch-2 corner sp, (3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1) into next ch-2 sp, (3tr, ch2) into next ch-2 sp, change to Citrus Yellow, (3tr, ch1) in same ch-2 corner sp as previous 3-tr group, (3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1) in next ch-2 sp, 3tr, ch2 in same ch-sp as beg 3-tr group, ss to top of beg ch-3.

Join Crimson Red into final ch-2 corner sp. [8 3-tr groups]

Round 3 Ch3, (2tr, ch1) into same ch-2 corner sp, *(3tr, ch1) into next ch-1 sp, (3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1) into next ch-2 corner sp, (3tr, ch1) into next ch-1 sp**, (3tr, ch2) into next ch-2 sp, change to Thistle Purple, (3tr, ch1) into same sp; rep from * to ** once more, (3tr, ch2) into same ch-sp as beg 3-tr group, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 3-tr groups]

Join Thistle Purple into final ch-2 sp.

Round 4 Ch3, (3tr, ch1) into ch-2 sp, *(3tr, ch1) into each ch-1 sp across to next corner, (3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1) in ch-2 sp, (3tr, ch1) in each ch-1 sp to next corner, (3tr, ch2) in next ch-2 sp**, change to Crimson Red, (3tr, ch1) in same ch-2 sp; rep from * to ** once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [16 3-tr groups]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Granny square 2 (Make 3)

Work Rounds 1 and 2 as for Granny Square 1. Use Harbour Blue and Pear Green for Rounds 3-4.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

To make up

Block each Square before joining. Using the diagram below to join the squares together with a dc seam (if you're new to this check out our how to join crochet pieces together tutorial). Make sure the RS of the Squares are facing throughout.
