You'll be amazed at how quickly this chunky blanket knits up, from start to finish, giving it a mesh like appearance that, combined with the heavy and chunky yarn, still has a lovely warm and cosy finish and weight to it. The chunky knit blanket is an ideal lap blanket – or hang it off a clothes ladder, tapestry style!

The how to make a chunky knit blanket project uses seven balls of Paintbox Wool Mix Super Chunky yarn, (Buy from Lovecrafts) which is a 50% wool, 50% acrylic blend. Weave in ends. See our how to weave in ends in knitting article for guidance. Block gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band – see our how to block knitted garments article for guidance.

Chunky yarns, like the one used here, are tricky to weave in. Use a large-eyed tapestry needle to weave the ends back into the fabric. Trim the end and add a few sewing stitches to prevent the yarn ends from fraying and slipping out of place.
