Free Granny Crochet Bunting Pattern
Grannys don't have to be square! Give a twist to those classic stitches with this triangle crochet bunting pattern!

We love a bit of bunting... almost as much as we love granny squares - and this fabulous free crochet bunting pattern combines the two! Louise McCarney’s colourful crochet flags are a must-make for summer, and those fantastic triangles use the same stitch combinations as your classic granny square, just with one less corner! Plus there's also a pretty flower pendant to add an extra splash of summer to your crochet bunting! Perfect for garden bbq parties, decorating your campervan, or just celebrating Granny Square Day!
You will need
Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK (80% bamboo, 20% wool, 50g/95m) or alternative DK yarn,

Measurements
Triangle measures 17 x 15cm (6¾ x 6in)
Flower triangle measures 15 x 14½cm (6 x5¾in)
Flower measures 5cm (2in) diameter
Abbreviations
Popcorn stitch (PC) Work 4dc in the same st, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook from front to back in the top of first dc worked, put the hook back in the dropped loop and pull through the first st, ch1 to close. You can find more information in our how to crochet popcorn stitch tutorial.

Free Granny Bunting Crochet Pattern

Coloured Triangles (make 10)
Ch4, ss to first ch to join into a ring.
Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr), 2tr into the ring, (ch3, 3tr into the ring) twice, ch3, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. [9 tr, 3 ch-3 sps] Change colour, joining new colour to any ch-3 sp.
Round 2 Ch3 (counts as tr), (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same ch-3 sp, ch1, *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch1; rep from * once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [18 tr, 3 ch-3 sps, 3 ch-1 sps] Change colour, joining new colour to any ch-3 sp.
Round 3 Ch3 (counts as tr), (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same ch-3 sp, ch1, 3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1, *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch1, 3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1; rep from * once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [27 tr, 3 ch-3 sps, 6 ch-1 sps] Change colour, joining new colour to any ch-3 sp.
Round 4 Ch3 (counts as tr), (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) twice, *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) twice; rep from * once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [36 tr, 3 ch-3 sps, 9 ch-1 sps] Change colour, joining new colour to any ch-3 sp.
Round 5 Ch3 (counts as tr), (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) 3 times, *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) 3 times; rep from * once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [45 tr, 3 ch-3 sps, 12 ch-1 sps] Change back to first colour, joining first colour to any ch-3 sp.
Round 6 Ch3 (counts as tr), (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) 4 times, *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1) 4 times; rep from * once more, ss to top of beg ch-3. [54 tr, 3 ch-3 sps, 15 ch-1 sps]
Change to Cream, joining Cream to the top of any middle tr of a 3-tr group.
Round 7 Ch1 (doesn’t count as st), dc in every tr and ch around, working 3dc in each ch-3 corner, ss to first dc. [78 sts]
Round 8 Ch1 (doesn’t count as dc), *PC in same st, ss in each of next 2 sts; rep from * around.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cream Triangles (make 4)
To make a plain Cream triangle, work as given for Coloured Triangle, but do not change colours between Rounds 1-6. Instead, after joining each round, simply ss into each of the next 2 tr and ss into next corner, ready to start the next round. Change to contrasting colour for Round 7 and change to another colour for Round 8.


Flower Bunting Pennant
Flower
Make a crochet magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 5dc into the loop, ss to first dc to join. [5 sts]
Round 2 Ch1, 2dc in each st around, ss to first dc, changing colour during ss. [10 sts]
Round 3 Ch1, *1dc in next st, 2dc in next st; rep from * around, ss to first dc. [15 sts]
Round 4 Ch1, *1dc in each of next 2 sts, 2dc in next st; rep from * around, ss to first dc. [20 sts]
Fasten off, but do not weave in ends. Repeat Rounds 1-4 to make a second Flower Centre.
Petals
Holding both pieces of Flower Centre WS together, join new colour and work next round through both pieces at the same time.
Round 5 Ch1, htr in st at base of ch-1, (tr, dtr) in next st, (dtr, tr) in next st, (htr, ch1, ss) in next st, *(ss, ch1, htr) in next st, (tr, dtr) in next st, (dtr, tr) in next st, (htr, ch1, ss) in next st; rep from * twice more, stuff all ends into centre and rep from * once more. [5 petals]
Fasten off and weave in final end. Make 6 flowers in different colourways.
To finish
Join 3 of the flowers by the petals in one line. Then join 2 more flowers below the 3 flowers and to each other. Finally, join the final flower below the last 2.
Cut approx 3 x 140cm lengths of Cream yarn. Weave one end through 5 of the colour triangles and secure with knots. Repeat for the other 5 colour triangles and then for the cream triangles, with the flower triangle at the centre.
