Free crochet frog pattern

Head and body

Using Pistachio yarn and 4mm crochet hook, make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1: 6dc into the ring. [6sts]

Round 2: 2dc into each st around. [12sts]

Round 3: (Dc in the first st, 2dc in the next st) repeat 6 times. [18sts]

Round 4: Dc in each st around. [18sts]

Round 5: (Dc in the first two sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat 6 times. [24sts]

Round 6: Dc in each st around. [24sts]

Round 7: (Dc in the first three sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat 6 times. [30sts]

Round 8: Dc in each st around. [30sts]

Round 9: (Dc in the first four sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat 6 times. [36sts]

Round 10-14: Dc in each st around. [36sts]

Round 15: (Dc2tog, dc in the next ten sts) repeat 3 times. [33sts]

Round 16: Dc in each st around. [33sts]

Round 17: (Dc2tog, dc in the next nine sts) repeat 3 times. [30sts]

Round 18: Dc in each st around. [30sts]

Round 19: (Dc2tog, dc in next three sts) repeat 6 times [24sts]

Stuff firmly now.

Round 22: (Dc2tog) repeat 6 times. [6sts]

Fasten off and sew closed the gap at the bottom of the body. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

Legs (Make two of each size).

Short legs

Using Pistachio yarn and 4mm crochet hook make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1: 6dc into the ring. [6sts]

Rounds 2-6: Dc in each st around. [6sts]

Change to Light Pistachio yarn.

Rounds 7-10: Dc in each st around. [6sts]

Round 11: (Dc in the first two sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat twice. [8sts]

Round 12: (Dc in the first three sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat twice. [10sts]

Round 13: (Dc in the first four sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat twice. [12sts]

Round 14: (Dc in the first five sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat twice. [14sts]

Round 15: (Tr in first st, ch2, dc in next two sts) repeat to last two sts, tr in next st, ch 2, dc in last st.

Fasten off, stuff with a pipe cleaner and sew closed the foot so that the treble stitches are lining up and forming the webbed foot.

Long legs

Using Pistachio yarn, make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1: 6dc into the ring. [6sts]

Round 2-16: Dc in each st around. [6sts]

Change to Light Pistachio yarn and continue from round 7 of short legs pattern

Finish as before. Using the photo as a guide, bend the legs into shape and sew in place securely on the body. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

Eyes (Make two).

Using White yarn and 4mm crochet hook, make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1: 6dc into the ring. [6sts]

Round 2: (Dc in the first st, 2dc in the next st) repeat 3 times. [9sts]

Change to Pale Green yarn

Round 3: Dc in each st around. [9sts]

Place a black safety eye through the centre of the eye. Stuff the eye and fasten off. Sew closed to form a ball, then sew in place on the head of the frog.

Bow

Using Royal yarn and 4mm crochet hook, ch4

Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from the hook, dc in the next two ch sts. [3sts]

Row 2-6: Ch1, turn, dc in each st to the end. [3sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail, thread the yarn to the centre of the long edge and wrap around, pulling tight to form a bow. Secure the yarn and then sew in place on the frog.

Using black embroidery thread on your wool needle, create a long stitch for the mouth with two short stitches either end. Fasten off and weave in loose ends where they can’t be seen.

Crown

Using Gold lamé embroidery thread and a 3mm crochet hook, ch14, ss in first ch to form a ring

Round 1: Dc into each ch around. [14sts]

Round 2: (Tr in first st, ch2, dc in next two sts) repeat to last two sts, tr in next st, ch2, dc in last st.

Fasten off and sew in place on the head.

Heart

The heart is made by first making two circles then joining them together to form the heart in one piece.

First circle

Using Red and 4mm crochet hook, make a crochet magic loop.

Round 1: 6dc into magic ring. [6sts]

Round 2: 2dc into each st around. [12sts]

Round 3-4: Dc in each st around. [12 sts]

Cut yarn and fasten off.

Second circle

Make the same as first circle but do not cut off yarn at end.

Joining circles

Round 1: Dc in the 12 sts of second circle, without breaking yarn dc in the 12 sts of circle 1. [24sts]

Round 2: (Dc2tog, dc in next six sts) repeat 3 times. [21sts]

Round 3: (Dc2tog, dc in next five sts) repeat 3 times. [18sts]

Round 4: (Dc2tog, dc in next four sts) repeat 3 times. [15sts]

Round 5: (Dc2tog, dc in next three sts) repeat 3 times. [12sts]

Round 6: (Dc2tog, dc in next two sts) repeat 3 times. [9sts]

Stuff the heart now

Round 7: (Dc2tog, dc in next st) repeat 3 times. [6sts]

Round 8: (Dc2tog) repeat 3 times. [3sts]

To finish

Fasten off. Sew closed the hole at the base and top of the heart and sew in-between the frog’s legs. Weave in and cut off any loose ends to finish.
