Back in 2016 and 2017 we featured a Block of the month series by Nicole Calver called Back to Basics. In it she talked readers through how to sew a series of quilt blocks using simple shapes to build your skills. (These issues are all still available through the Love Patchwork & Quilting app see below for details).

The series ended in issue 45 when we showed readers how to finish off their blocks and piece them into a superstar quilt.

If you want to create a quilt like this at home, we've made a free quilt planner download and pattern for you to use to decide on how you'll lay out your quilt blocks and fabric colour combinations.

Alice is the former Editor of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine and is obsessed with all things quilt-related. She’s worked with a whole host of the world's leading quilt designers. You can often find her flicking through the very latest fabric collections or testing out exciting new notions. She’s also the office EPP queen, stitching her way (slowly!) to gorgeous quilts with impeccably embroidered details. Unusually for a quilter, Alice operates a no-scraps-allowed policy at home and curates a very modest fabric stash.
