Published: March 26, 2024 at 9:00 am

Our adorable crochet lamb is the perfect project to hook around Easter-time. After all, nothing says that spring is here like the sight of little baby lambs gambolling across fields.

This amazing amigurumi crochet lamb was designed by Vanessa Mooncie and first appeared back in issue 55 of Simply Crochet, and now we’re bringing it to you on Gathered as a special spring-time treat.

Gwendolyn the lamb has a fleece with fabulous touchable texture thanks to clever bobble stitches, plus the sweet spring flowers really help to celebrate the season (you can always skip the flower in her mouth if you choose to).

It’s a brilliant project to perfect your amigurumi skills, and if you’re looking for amigurumi advice and pro tips, check out our how to crochet amigurumi guide.

Notes

The Head, Tail and the first part of the Body and Legs are worked using the amigurumi method. Work in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to place a marker in the first st of each round and move it up as you work.

The front of the Body and Legs are worked in rows.

The bobble pattern appears on the reverse side of the Lamb as you crochet.

Body

Embroider the nose in fly stitch (see p7), using 4 strands of embroidery thread.

Sew the Head to the Body, stitching all around the neck edge and inserting more stuffing into the neck before closing, if necessary.

free-crochet-lamb-pattern-face

Step 3

Ears

Using the long tail, sew each ear neatly to the top of the Head, stitching all around the edges to attach them securely in place.

Step 4

Legs

Use the long tail, sew together the seam of the top shaping. Stuff the Legs firmly, filling them to the top and keeping the base flat. Stitch the front Legs side by side, just before the front shaping of the Body, with the seam facing towards the back. Sew the hind Legs next to each other at the back of the Body, with the seam in the Leg facing towards the front.

Stitch all around each Leg to hold them securely in place, inserting more stuffing if necessary.

Step 5

Tail

Use the end of the crochet hook to push a small amount of stuffing into the end of the Tail. Using the yarn tail, run a gathering stitch around the last round of stitches, draw up to close.

Fasten off.

Sew the Tail to the back of the Body.

Step 6

Flowers

Stitch the Flowers to the top of the Stems. To attach a pink Flower to the Lamb’s mouth, thread a short length of yarn through the end of the Stem.

Thread the ends of the yarn through a needle and draw the needle between the stitches on one side of the front of the face, below the nose, and through to the other side pulling the Stem through. Secure in place with a few hidden stitches.

Tie together the remaining Flowers into bunches of 5 Flowers with a crocheted cord of ch60.

Weave in all yarn ends.
