Cuff to heel measures approx 24cm (9½in). Heel to toe measures approx 20cm (8in)

Using a 5mm hook and Yarn A, make a crochet magic loop

Round 1 (RS) Ch2 (counts as htr throughout), 11htr into loop, ss to top of beg ch-2 to join. [12 sts]

Round 2 Ch2, htr in st at base of ch-2, 2htr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2. [24 sts]

Round 3 Ch2, htr in bl of next 2 sts, 2htr in next st, (htr in bl of next 3 sts, 2htr in next st) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [30 sts]

Round 4 Ch2, htr in bl of next 3 sts, 2htr in next st, (htr in bl of next 4 sts, 2htr in next st) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [36 sts]

Round 5 Ch2, htr in bl of next 4 sts, 2htr in next st, (htr in bl of next 5 sts, 2htr in next st) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [42 sts]

Rounds 6-8 Ch2, htr in bl of each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Change to Yarn B, do not fasten off Yarn A.

Rounds 9-10 As Round 6.

Fasten off Yarn B. Change to Yarn A.

Rounds 11-12 As Round 6.

Using a 5mm hook and with WS facing, count back 14 sts from end of last round and rejoin Yarn A in fl of st.

Row 1 (WS) Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), dc in fl of first 28 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [28 sts]

Row 2 (RS) Ch1, dc in first 27 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [27 sts]

Row 3 Ch1, dc in fl of first 24 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [24 sts]

Row 4 Ch1, dc in first 21 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [21 sts]

Row 5 Ch1, dc in fl of first 18 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [18 sts]

Row 6 Ch1, dc in first 15 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [15 sts]

Row 7 Ch1, dc in fl of first 13 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [13 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Leg

Work on in rounds.

Using a 5mm hook and with RS facing, join Yarn A in bl of centre stitch of Heel.

Round 1 (RS) Ch2, htr in bl of each st along heel, 2htr in next st, htr in bl of each st around Foot, 2htr in next st, htr in bl of each st to end, ss to top of beg ch-2.[44sts]

Round 2 Ch2, (htr in bl of next 10 sts, 2htr in next st) 4 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [48 sts]

Round 3 Ch2, htr in bl of each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Join Yarn C, but do not fasten off Yarn A.

Rounds 4-5 As Round 3.

Fasten off Yarn C. Change to Yarn A.

Rounds 6-7 As Round 3.

Join Yarn B, but do not fasten off Yarn A.

Rounds 8-9 As Round 3.

Fasten off Yarn B. Change to Yarn A.

Rounds 10-17 As Round 3.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cuff

Cuff is worked in a continuous spiral, without closing off each round with a ss.

With RS facing, join Yarn D into any st.

Round 1 Ss in bl of each st around. [48 sts]

Rounds 2-10 Dc in each st around.

Ss into next st and fasten off.

Surface crochet zigzags

For neater results, insert hook from below for bottom points of zigzags, and from above for top points. Using a 4mm hook, join Yarn E into any unused fl from Round 11 of Foot.

Row 1 Ch3, skip 2 sts, ss in fl on Round 12, *ch3, skip 2 sts, ss in fl on Round 11, ch3, skip 2 sts, ss in fl on Round 12; rep from * around, ss into beg ss. Fasten off.

Repeat Row 1 over Rounds 6-7 of Leg.

Fringe

Cut 48 lengths of Yarn D, approx 15cm long. Fold each in half, insert hook in fl of Row 1 of Cuff, from bottom up, pull folded yarn through st to form a loop, wrap tails around hook, pull tails through loop on hook; rep around front.

To finish

Weave in all remaining ends and block Stocking if desired.
