Free crochet sun hat pattern
Hook yourself the ultimate summer crochet hat with this fab free crochet sun hat pattern!
Protective gear is rarely this stylish – enjoy the sun but swerve the UV nasties in our cute crochet sun hat by Samanta Fornino of Follow the Crochet. This free summer crochet hat pattern is hooked up in the fabulous Ra-Ra Raffia by Wool and the Gang, a biodegradable tape-style yarn made from wood fibres that is really fun to crochet with and great for projects like this free sun hat crochet pattern. It does create quite thick stitches and is worked double-stranded, so check your stitch markers before you begin as they may not be large enough – large safety pins would work in a snap.
You will need
Wool and the Gang Ra-Ra Raffia (100% wood, 100g/250m), 2 balls of Desert Palm
First 6 rounds to measure 10cm (4in) in diameter
To fit head measuring 52-56cm (20½in) in circumference
You can find a full list of all abbreviations we use in our abbreviations and conversions guide. This pattern is written in UK terminology but you can easily convert it to US terms using the guide.
Use 2 strands of raffia held together as 1 throughout.
The Hat is worked in a continuous spiral, without closing each round with a ss. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving the stitch marker up as you work.
Work all sts in the BL unless otherwise stated.
The Hat can be embellished with ribbon as desired.
