Sometimes the easiest of stitches are the best. You’ll be amazed by how the simple Pillar stitch creates such a defined texture. It’s great for snuggly cowls or even a fun poncho!


This stitch pattern would work well for both lightweight or chunky projects. It could be a summer vest or cardigan, or even a blanket with some mega chunky yarn.

To knit the Pillars pattern, just follow this stitch pattern to the desired length:


Cast on a multiple of 2 sts. (Try 44 sts.)

Row 1 (RS) Purl.

Row 2 Knit.

Row 3 K2, *s11, K1; rep from * to end of row.

Row 4 *K1, yf, sl1, yb; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.

Row 5 K1, *yf, k2tog; rep from * to last st, K1.

Row 6 Purl.


Repeat rows 1-6 to form the pattern.
