Heartthrob Harry Styles has always been a fashion icon. He’s worn some incredible pieces in the past but when he dressed up in handmade knitted and crochet clothing, our love for him rocketed to a whole new level.
The now famous Harry Styles cardigan was first spotted in rehearsal for The Today Show. Originally designed by British brand JW Anderson, this knitted patchwork cardigan has become one of 2022’s most talked about pieces of clothing. So talked about in fact, it’s now on display in the V&A Museum in London.

Start by making the colourful cardigan squares!
Make 85 squares in total. 8 squares in one colour and 7 in every other square colour.
Using any square colour, chain stitch 16.
Row 1: Make 1 double crochet (dc) in second chain from hook, then 1 dc in each chain to end, turn. [15dc total]
Rows 2–15: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch throughout), 1 dc in each stitch to end, turn.
Let’s join those squares together to make your cardigan
Arrange 25 squares into a panel of 5 x 5 for the back.
For each front panel of the cardigan, arrange 10 squares into a panel 2 wide x 5 long. For each sleeve, arrange 20 squares into a panel 4 wide x 5 long.
Move the squares around until you are happy with the colour arrangement.
Using a yarn needle and main colour, sew squares together into arranged panels following the diagram above. Sew side and sleeve seams.
