Cables: every knitter is daunted by them at first, but once you’ve mastered them there’s a wealth of different patterns and uses for them. This stitch pattern is an obvious choice for jumpers and cardigans, but it’s also perfect for patchwork squares or baby blankets.
To knit the Basket Cable, just follow this stitch pattern to the desired length:
Cast on a multiple of 8 sts plus 12 sts. (Try 44 sts.)
Row 1 (WS) K2, P to the last 2 sts, K2.
Row 2 Knit.
Rows 3 & 4 As rows 1 & 2.
Row 5 K2, P to the last 2 sts, K2.
Row 6 K2, (C8B) to last 2 sts, K2.
Rows 7-11 As rows 1-5.
Row 12 K6, (C8F) to last 6 sts, K6.
Repeat rows 1-12 to form pattern.
